Why use Facebook?
We will use a facebook group called, "Miss Shaw's 1st Grade Classroom." In this group, I will post reminders for parents about homework and special events. I will also post pictures of the class and some of their projects. Students may come here for help on assignments from me and other students. It is not necessary, but it is a nice tool to use. Class Dojo
Class Dojo is a tool for me to connect with parents and keep you updated on your students. Students will be aware of this tool and how it will be used. Class Dojo has a portfolio feature where I can create activities for students to do. There is also a class story feature where I can post photos and updates with you. Class Dojo even features a messaging tool, so if you are on the site and have a question, you can message me right there instead of coming to the class website, Facebook, or email. It also includes an attendance feature where I can mark your student as present, tardy, absent, or left early. It is a great tool for parents to monitor their student's behavior while at school. Khan Academy is a free tool online that is personalized for each student. It allows students to learn new topics or practice topics already learned. Khan Academy is great for all ages. Khan Academy also has videos that can help explain a topic. I used it throughout high school when studying for SATs, and it was extremely helpful. I can even add myself as a coach to monitor student progress. There is also a parent feature where you can track your child's progress too.
